Survive 2012 - or any other disaster !

    By Richard K. Clingempeel

This is YOUR first step in preparing for any SURVIVABLE disaster !

What do I need to do ?

ALWAYS PLAN AHEAD !

1 - Get right with GOD - at the very least you want to save your immortal soul !

2 - What level of (dis)comfort are you willing or capable of surviving ?

Those with money will be able to afford things like solar panels for electricity, others may have to do it the old fashioned way, like ice boxes with modern insulators, etc.

3 - How many people/pets are you able to take care of in extreme situations?

I couldn't imagine doing without my "babies" - my pets - so I plan on storing several months or even YEARS of dry food, which can be stored without special containment facilities such as a refrigerator.

Humans require a much more varied food regimen, so you are going to have to stockpile seeds for corn, lettuce, and other such VITAMIN CRITICAL items.

ALSO - speaking of Vitamin critical items, store a years' (or more) supply of Multi-Vitamins - the best you can afford ! - for supplementing your food supply. Trying to skimp on critical items like this will only bite you in the posterior later !

4 - How much living space are you going to require (reference #3 above)?

There are scientific types who recommend a certain number of square feet of living space per person.

5 - How much WATER are you and your friends/pets going to require ?

This is critical - you can go for a couple of weeks (NOT RECOMMENDED) without food, but the human body starts to malfunction after three days without water. You are approximately 73% water - it is CRITICAL that you rehydrate on a regular basis !

6 - What other "fluids" will you need ?

If you have a gas or diesel generator you will need fuel and oil - a LOT of it ! Also plan to store kerosene and all other volatiles, ALL of which require separate storage facilities, as far from the living area as possible and the containers themselves should be treated for long-term underground storage. This too, is a critical item, because you don't want your fuels leaking into the groundwater you MAY end up drinking

7 - What MEDICAL supplies will I need ?

If you are diabetic, you should have a REFRIGERATED containment system to store as much Insulin - or whatever you use - for a long period of time.

Other items such as antibiotics, pain medications, etc. should be stockpiled and kept refrigerated - under lock and key !

8 - What is your survival sites' LOCATION ?

It will do you no good to build a high-tech fortress next to a "Supervolcano" or along the shoreline. Your choice of your building site is one of the most important items you will consider

You will  also need to consider building plans, materials from which your redoubt will be constructed, methods of keeping unwanted visitors out and allowing friends/family/pets into your family site, and MANY, MANY other other questions...
